About

OJ's Halal Meat

We are a family-owned, local butcher shop located in the Castle Downs neighbourhood in North Edmonton.

Behind every successful business, there is a family. This is the part where I introduce you to my dad, Fayssal Jomha. It’s been three decades since he arrived in Canada, but our family business did not start there. To start, we have to go waaaay back!

The family business technically started about 200 years ago back in our home country of Lebanon! In fact, the 𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭 Original Jomha’s still exists back home in Lala, Lebanon, where it’s just simply known as Jomha’s. Today, we proudly carry the same traditions from that iconic location right here in Edmonton. As of today, there have been six generations of Jomha butchers. This cultural legacy allowed my dad to perfect the craft of butchering meat – a skill he started to learn at only eight-years-old, and is now passing on to me and my siblings. Nearly two centuries later, we still operate with the same passion for food, community, and family.

When you visit a butcher shop, you may not realize that you need to follow a few rules of etiquette. Thankfully, these rules aren’t too complicated and may even be a little obvious to some people. However, following them ensures that your experience is a positive one during your visit.

First of all, you should keep your hands off of the display glass and avoid touching anything near the meats. And you must also be patient about waiting for your turn and avoid rushing the butcher. A good butcher needs time to cut and prepare meat and prefers a little peace and quiet.

Should you tip a butcher? That all depends on a few factors. At OJ’s Halal Meat and Deli, we like getting tips if you enjoyed your experience and you truly want to reward us. So if you visit our butcher shop in Edmonton, AB, Canada, don’t hesitate to let us know how much you enjoyed the experience.

Thank you for visiting us…we look forward to seeing you soon.
